Sanitation at the rear and two traffic agents in the front at 8:30 am, writing up one of the Eighth Avenue bike lane's chronic offenders. Note: lousiest parking job ever. Clickthrough for additional photos.
USPS laziness
245 eighth ave, New york, NY
The middle-aged female biker, shown here forced into traffic by the postal truck, had a look of nervousness on her face before she approached the truck blocking the bike lane. It was the look of, "It's rush hour, this bastard is blocking the bike lane, and am I gonna get killed?" Note the huge open space at curb.
Gristede's

Now even the US mail is parking in the bike lane outside Gristede's.
3 in a row on Eighth Ave below 14th Street
75 eighth ave, New york, NY
Lined up like ducks in the bike lane. I was off to work so I didn't have the time to photograph them all.
Land Cruiser

This Toyota took off as soon as its driver realized he was being photographed.

Blocking the bike lane on Eighth Avenue as usual.
Hello again Mr. Mailman
8th Ave at West 25th Street, New york, NY
Last time you peeps were parked in the bike lane it was 1/2 block to the south and a different truck. But the elephant did not forget: http://nyc.mybikelane.com/post/index/2832
Rearranging the trunk in the bike lane
261 eighth ave, New york, NY
He: "You scared me."
Me: "You're in the bike lane. Can't you park at the curb? Look at all that curb."
He: "What?"
Me: "OK, I'll take your picture."
He: "So take my picture."
So I did. Later I looked up his violations on the Department of Finance website, which shows 4 expired meter violations in the past six weeks. No wonder he seemed scared—he obviously hates to pay for parking and perhaps suffers from pathological fear of curb syndrome.
Just another day at Gristede's
221 eighth ave, New york, NY
Pathological indifference and physical inability to park at the curb. $1,217 of tickets in JUST TWO WEEKS! Three of 13 violations for parking in a bus stop.
Bud Light scoundrel
187 eighth ave, New york, NY
This photo was taken more than halfway down the block—almost the entire block featured curb space available for him to park. He's racked up 17 violations IN JUST TWO WEEKS, $1,135 in tickets! Clickthrough for photo of violations accrued. This arrogant jerk costs his company lots of money through his reckless driving, and he creates plenty of headaches for bikers. It's the same reckless behavior he exhibited last time he was photographed and depicted on this website: http://nyc.mybikelane.com/post/index/2890
"Responsibility matters" reads the sticker on the back of this truck. Clearly driver of truck 185 needs a lesson in responsibility.
Am I at Rite Aid?
289 eighth ave, New york, NY
That looks like the Rite Aid flyer on the dashboard (see pic #2). Rite Aid is across the street. USPS truck is parked in the bike lane, although there was enough room for two USPS trucks at the curb, which you can plainly see in my photo. Although the driver probably wasn't at Rite Aid, this was a lousy and thoughtless parking job. On the other hand, maybe the driver was buying last-minute Halloween candy at Rite Aid?
It is Vital...

....that I park in the bike lane, despite many open parking spots this Sunday morning. Folks, I grew weary of taking photos of bike lane parkers on Eighth Avenue this morning. I've posted a mere six of them below on this 1.5 mile stretch (23rd to 53rd), yet there were even more observed in just a 10 minute period. This seems kinda outrageous, no?
I working?
887 eighth ave, New york, NY
I eating! I sitting! I parking! But I only taking up 50% of bike lane, not so bad.
I'm lovin it!
270 eighth ave, New york, NY
MTA parks in the bike lane to get takeout from McDonald's, is surprised to see the guy on the bike snap his photo. Great use of MTA resources and job time—though it is a Prius, nice touch.
Diet Coke adds life to bike lane
149 eighth ave, New york, NY
The curb had more than ample space for this truck. The Coors Light truck got a ticket for this same nonsense 45 minutes later.
