Maybe it's time to stop wasting our energy blaming these motorists (not that they're blameless), and start boycotting any bike lane that offers no real space to cyclists. Motorists use bike lanes with impunity; maybe cyclists should keep themselves visible and safe by riding right out in the middle of car lanes.

Unless and until bike lanes are redesigned and rebuilt to offer actual space and protection, they are useless. Bike lanes that run alongside car parking are particularly useless.
