Police car was sitting in the bike lane, driver gone. Passenger was a female officer talking on her cel phone and eating ice cream. She rolled down her window and said "What?". When I said she was in the bike lane, she said "I'M in the bike lane? Don't you see the white and blue colors on the car?". I said I did, but I also saw her eating ice cream and talking on the phone while i was riding into the traffic to go around her. She replied "Too bad.", and rolled up the window.

CPR -- courtesy, professionalism, and respect. Looks like she was 0 for 3.

typical nypd behavior. if they even acknowledge the existence of cyclists it's to arrest them, cause them physical injury, or put them in danger of physical injury through this kind of negligent behavior. oh, or cut bike locks because they don't provide enough bike racks.

But did you get her badge number and call her precinct to report her? I know it's a lot to ask, especially since you weren't doing anything wrong, but unless you let her bosses know that she's being a disgrace to the department, nothing will get done.

Most importantly it's an obvious abuse of power, illegal and dangerous behavior by those who's duty and responsibility is to enforce, let alone uphold the law. SHE SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPORTED! In the future please get a badge number and a license plate to follow through with a complaint. Obviously it's up to us to do their job for them. These officers must be held accountable for blatant disregard of public safety and their duty. Habitual creatures we are, she will be back.
