From a pedestrian's vantage, these bikers are typical of most around here, bedecked in spandex & helmets and speeding on pedestrian paths, a greater menace to us than all the cars in Brooklyn, which is saying something.
Get off the sidewalks or walk your bikes and you might get some sympathy - otherwise, expect the REAL majority of users of the city, people on foot, to make sure you're marginalized this summer.

Agreed that this is bad. Hardly worse than all the cars in Brooklyn though. Go take a look into how many pedestrians have been killed in Brooklyn in the past 12 months by cars vs bikes.
This post is off-topic to the point of this site. Gonna leave this one up as you do make a good point. Bikes do *NOT* belong on the sidewalk (cyclists, notice the word "walk" in the word sidewalk?).

Your concerns are valid but this is not the forum for this kind of complaint - so get your spam off here.

I'm having a hard time understanding how bicyclists are a greater "menace" to pedestrians than are motor vehicles. Last time I checked, bicycles did not spew chemicals into the air that cause cancer, heart disease, asthma and global warming. And I seem to recall that it was car drivers, not bicyclists, who killed almost 200 pedestrians and bicyclists in NYC last year. I also seems to recall it is private car drivers that cause at least $13 billion in lost business in NYC each year due to unnecessary traffic congestion. Bicyclists have not completely warped our land use patterns so as to make us almost completely dependent on cars for basic mobility and access to the necessities of life. And last time I checked, it was the pandering to the automobile way of life that has gotten us into the situation where our nation is addicted to a non-renewable and dwindling source of energy, most of which is controlled by countries who don't particularly like us.
I also note that your comments show that the automobilization of our City has marginalized you so much that you falsely see pedestrians and bicyclists as enemies, while being blind to the real problem.

This reminds of how the bicyclist and pedestrians on the Central Park drive yell at each other for cramping their tiny lanes. Meanwhile, the cars have 2 giant lanes in the middle of a PARK. Cars are the problem and it's stupid to fight amongst ourselves. Good for you for walking.
But, I can't help but notice just how totally terrified the pedestrians in your picture appear. Do you think maybe not everyone is as paranoid as you about having a 20-lb bicycle next to them. That stroller probably weighs more.

Sidewalks are for WALKING. Stop signs are for STOPPING. I'm tired of drivers being pissed off at me because everyone else thinks its so cool to flaunt the law. Give respect to get respect. Try signaling once in a while.

Your picture does not accurately reflect your opinion.
- Since the spokes of the bikes can be seen in the picture, unless your camera is the most top notch one on the market, it does not appear that these bikers are "speeding" through the pedestrian path. Any regular camera would capture show speed with a blur at least somewhere in the picture, and the spokes of a bike would be a perfect place to demonstrate your point -- if the bikers were speeding.
- Their upright stance (as opposed to bent over their handlebars) indicates that they are taking the lane pretty cautiously and slowly -- again, not "speeding".
- The male biker's hand is also on his brake as another indicator that they're going at a slow pace.
- The woman's pants do not look like spandex to me because of the dip in the middle of her back at the waistband, which is typical when you sit down in pants that are not stretchy.
- The pedestrians are not looking at them at all, let alone looking shocked by their sudden or "speeding" presence. When a biker whizzes by me when I'm walking, I am surprised, and turn in the direction of that which surprised me. None of these people have even turned their heads. Therefore, they heard them coming, which means they were going at a reasonable pace to give walkers notice, or they rang a bell to tell them. Either way indicates they were hardly a "menace" to the pedestrians.
- They are well away from the walkers they have already passed, and are braking before reaching the person with the red item (a grill, perhaps?) who is more centered in the path, indicating caution and awareness of others' right to be on the sidewalk.
Next time you decide to advocate your position with visual "evidence," do so with a picture that accurately reflects what you're spewing rather than trying to force facts to fit your opinions.

If some members of this site want to take a hardline approach to vehicles blocking bike lanes then I think the same approach should be taken to bicyclists that fail to obey the rules as well.
A vehicle is never permitted to park/stand in a bike lane and the people here feel that those rules should be enforced without discretion. A bicyclist over the age of 12 is not permitted to operate a bicycle on a sidewalk but people here try to make excuses...she isn't wearing spandex, i can see the wheel spokes, his hand is on the brake...give me a break.

Paraderest -- the law for bicycles on the sidewalk is actually under 14, not 12.
Also, this site is not about bicycling on the sidewalk. If you want to shine the light on that issue, start your own site.

Yeah, please start your own site (good luck with that) so we can all come over and leave obnoxious comments on all your posts.

I guess Paraderest also thinks that if you argue with your spouse you shouldn't be allowed to protest against the Iraq war.
Dear Moderator, don't you think it's time to delete this thread. The point is obvious to everyone here.
And it's just a distraction.
Like other's have suggested, if someone feels strongly about this other topic, they can go and make their own site for it.
