Is the Mayor reluctant to allow the NYPD to ticket all the violators in the No Standing Anytime / Bike Lane zone on his doorstep for fear they will write unflattering articles about him? Or is it because the NYPD itself parks so many vehicles in this bike lane on a permanent basis? Why indeed is there even a bike lane here?

That's actually pretty sparse for that bike lane, usually it's completely filled with parked cars very early in the morning. I know the question is rhetorical but the bike lane is there in a halfassed attempt to make the approach to the Brooklyn Bridge slightly less deadly for cyclists.

You're right. It's the other half of the lane I didn't photograph because it was full of cops sitting in their big SUVs with the motors running.

NYP plates will cause the end of the world due to global warming, pollution, and resource wars. The press gets free parking in Manhattan while at the same time much of their income comes from automobile manufacturers. They will not give serious consideration to HPV and ZEV solutions due to their inherint conflict of interest. Anyone have the number of the Columbia School of Journalism?
