Forcing students out into the bike lane is school safety how? If only the NYPD would lead by example. If the cops don't respect the safety of cyclists, the public won't either.

The two bike lanes traversing avenue c outside the police station there are some of the worst in terms of people parked in bike lanes. almost all cops. im going over there with the video camera this weekend - putting it all over the web.

DOT runs a safe routes to schools program that did studies on how people get to school and how to make it safer. They addressed bicycling in Queens and Staten Island only, and did not even ask at schools in Manahattan whether anyone was bicycling. The implicit message is that you're not supposed to bike to school in Manhattan, I suppose becuase its too dangerous (because of all the police blocking the bike lanes!).
