Thank you for your effort - but the buffer is part of the bike lane that makes it safe.

It may not be legal either, but it's probably the best we're going to get from a delivery truck. Not sure where else he could have parked from this picture.

I'll take this parking job over his being in the lane any day. Just make sure he's not coming out the side as you pass.

Legally, this is a vehicle in a bike lane. But it's a huge improvement.

Actually, it's a vehicle in a safety zone. Different code, different summons.

According to the DOT information on bike lanes, the buffer zone is a legal part of the bike lane. I've spoken to many drivers and every single one has told me they get the same ticket they get in the bike lane when they're in the buffer zone. Even if parking police are giving bad tickets, that's still the way it is and it's still dangerous.

It's a hell of a lot better than parking in the lane itself, though.

The buffer is a part of the bike lane but by it being marked with diagonal harsh marks it becomes a safety zone. Either summons is technically acceptable. It's similiar to getting a summons for having an open container of alcohol instead of consuming alcohol in public, same thing, different name.
