New York's Finest Bike Lane Abusers, part deux

Observed by Twowheeledjustice on Sun, Nov 25 2007

There were about 7 NYPD cruisers and personal vehicles with permits on this section of St. Nicholas between 122nd and 123rd (near the 28th precinct house). This is the case EVERY day I ride by. Thanks for sending all the cyclists into traffic, NYPD.

yes, thank you. i am glad to see that st. nick and 123rd is up here. i have observed and suffered from this flagrant abuse for years. have you seen where they park the vans in the bike lane, jutting out perpendicularly to the street? absolutely shameless.

Notice how on the E.19th/20th St. lane (can't remeber which), NYPD apparently prevented DoT from striping the lane on the precinct block so that the cops could angle park on the street and sidewalk without having to answer for the effect on bicyclists' safety. Smolka's old precinct, what do you expect! Of course the lane runs on each block to the east and west of the precinct block, so the bicyclists are being led into danger by the lane which abruptly ends at the angle parking nightmare. But this situation on St. Nicholas is much worse b/c they are then parallel parking at the end of the angle parkers. Good lord!
