moped

Observed by lawandorder on Fri, Nov 16 2007

After I told this guy that next time he should stay out of the bike lane, he kept on asking me "was I delaying you buddy?" and launched into a tirade of curses.

Of course the issue is not about delaying bikes (in this case), but an equitable distribution of street space. But that was probably too much to convey in 5 seconds.

Which is why we need the NYPD to enforce the law, the DOT to make better bike lanes and the DMV make sure these folks actually know the rules of the road.

Within a few weeks you'll have new bike lanes on westbound Prince and eastbound Bleecker Streets. DOT is already testing the fluorescent green paint on westernmost Prince St. Meanwhile give a phone call to Jordan Lobster Farms; I find every manager I've spoken with at various companies like this are sympathetic if I prepare a few polite talking points.

It wasn't the truck that was the problem, but the guy on the moped who kept on driving in the bike lane.

Yup, I'm looking forward to more green bike lanes! Protected bike lanes would be best, though.

Have you noticed that the orange cones and barrels protecting the Centre Street bike lane north of the Brooklyn Bridge keep all the cars out? Instand class I lane. They should do that everywhere. No need to bang your head against the wall with the community board, bring in Jan Gehl from Europe . . . just do it!
