Just Desserts

Observed by BicyclesOnly on Fri, Oct 05 2007

One of those rare occurrences when a bike lane blocker gets ticketed. There were several other vehicles blocking the bike lane, but the TEA wasn't bothering with them because the drivers were int he vehicles. She could have at least told them to move out of the bike lane.

The answer to the enforcement problem is obvious:

1) Equip the TEA with cameras so they can capture the violations quickly, like MyBikelane members do, and then let them fill out the paperwork afterwards based ont he captured image. If the driver moves on before the summons is completed, that his tough luck--he'll get the ticekt in the mail.

2) Increase the penality for bike lane parking above that for ordinary double parking. That way TEA will target bike lanes to meet their quota more quickly.
