Not the bikers

Observed by Greg on Sun, Jan 07 2007

Jesus saves, as long you are not a cyclist trying to get down Henry St. Then his church uses their multiple vans to push cyclist into traffic so that his followers can break the law.

Greg, Is the bike lane side of the street designated restricted parking the entire length of the block, or just in front of the church? In either case, the parking is wrong (except maybe in the case of a vehicle with a valid "clergy" placard on the dash??), but if the restriction is specific to the curb in front of the church and that portion of the curb was traditionally parked in by church ogers, DOT should have converted the curbside spaces on the opposite side of the street (not in the bike lane) to restricted access to accomodate the displaced church goers. As a general matter, DOT should (but apoparently does not) study and account for existing uses of a street when the install bike lanes (and plan for those displaced existing uses to continue elsewhere), to avoid conflicts between bicyclists and those displaced.

Thumb_20

The entire length of the block is restricted bike lane. I am not even sure a valid Clergy permit allows people to park in the bike lane? But yeah, seems that DOT could do more to plan bike lane installations as they seem to be a bit disorganized. This lane has been around for some time though, so I imagine the parking violations are blatant.
