This pothole--large enough for an adult to climb into and hide in--has been left unrepaired in the middle of the East Side Greenway for more than a year, as far as I can recall. In order to protect itself from liability, the city has installed a chain-link fence around it, which I climbed to get this shot. Admittedly, the hole has become fertile ground for vegetation--some of the only vegetation found on this "greenway" south of 82nd Street--but there must be a better way to foster plant life. There is a lampost next to the cage, which further reduces the navigable space left in this supposedly two-way Class I bike path to less than 3'. NYC Parks Dept, fix the hole and get the cage out of my bike lane!

Finally got the 311 number today--let's see what happens.

Checked up on the 311 last week. Supposedly DEP inspected and reached the conclusion "ongoing construction"--those two words were the entire result of the inspection. There is no construction anywhere near the location of this cave-in. I explained this to the DOT complaints person. They gave me a new 311 number, had her write up the complaint so that DEP would be required to specify the construction it seeks to attribute this cave-in to, and required a new inspecton. Let's see what happens.

Second 311 to DEP got same result--"ongoing construction." They referred to DOT. Got new complaint number for use with DOT, follow up in 10 days.
