West 78th Street and Columbus Avenue, New york, NY
Mr. Lazy Fedex leap-frogged me after the last photo I took, shot ahead (traveling in the bike lane after passing me), and then pulled into the bike lane again in front of me.

This Fedex vehicle has $1,716 in parking tickets, including $230 for parking in very bike lane shown in this and the next post. Here's his MO: he rides down the block *IN* the bike lane, and pulls over at each gap in the parked cars where there is a hydrant. He could parallel park flush with the curb and keep the bike lane clear, or he could just park opposite the bike lane, but that would take too much time and effort, so instead he just pulls in and blocks the lane.

Hey Steve, I recognized the graffiti on the back of this guy's truck from your post: http://nyc.mybikelane.com/post/index/2173.
I told him he had $2K in tickets and he was endangering bicyclists and all he could do was give me this stupid smile and lock his doors (I guess he was afraid I would try to enter the cab and physically force him to move!).
If I have time, the next time I see him I will try to call a cop over.

Traveling backwards in the bike lane in a busy intersection--how many laws can we break at once? he was not in the process of parking.

This doofus with the vanity plate was blocking the way. Go back to Connecticut.

We called over this officer who directed the van to park next to the hydrant, as long as he was standing rather than parking. thanks NYPD!

His friend came along to help him carry home what he buys at the "Manhattan Mall" with his SUV.

No sure what business the Port Authority has at this location.

Some of the blocks with the bike lane barricaded were filled with cars, but others were empty, like this one. How much did Mercedes pay the city to put me in danger?

I was heading up Sixth Avenue at about 38th Street when I saw laid out in front of me NYPD police barricades, as far as the eye could see. On the other side of the street were white movie production trailers. As headed uptown to Bryant Park, I found the source of the blockage: a giant tent with a sign that said "Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week." NYPD Cushmans were parked all over the place. At least four blocks of the bicycle lane were saccrificed to the convenience of the fashion moguls and their Mercedes sponsors!
