8th Avenue and 54th Street, New york, NY
This pretty much shows the situation well. Note the public Parking Lot right across the street. The driver put this bicyclists life in danger just to save a buck.

What is the point of pulling over in a car this big anyway?

He freaked, of course. He started honking. He pulled up next to me
and started cussing unintelligibly.
Somewhere in there I think he asked me why I took his picture.
So, I told him it was because he was parked in the bike lane.
He said, "So what??!"
"Well, I send the picture to the city and hopefully they mail you a ticket. I think it's about $175, I'm not totally sure."
"Well, you'll have to pay it!" he screamed. "They should give YOU the
ticket! What? You work for the city now? You work for the city?" blah blah blah...
wow... I guess he believed me. Although, his "I'm-rubber-and-you're-glue" response was a little confusing.
"Don't get mad at me. You're the one breaking the law. Just obey the law and you have nothing to worry about. Bye Bye now." And, off I went.
And then, the fun part...
Riding along the bike path for the next 4 or 5 blocks trying to look cool and casual, but of course wondering if an SUV taxi isn't about to rear-end me and put an end to little Earth-friendly me.
I didn't look back though! I'm not chicken! Ha ha.

Why do they insist on blocking one and a half lanes when they could limit themselves to just one lane by not pulling over?
